Predictions

So far in my book Caroline's mother has dementia and she has to care for her most of the time once a week hospice comes in to help her and give her a little time. Now Caroline is forced with the decision of putting her mother in a care facility far away but with much better care, one near by with not as good care, or care for her all on her own and risk her mother getting injuries. I think that Caroline will eventually decide that putting her in a care facility a bit farther away is better that having her at home and having the chance off her getting her self injured or someone else. Also Janie, one of Caroline's good friends, hears about her husband ex wife. Her husband Victor tells her that his ex wife called a couple of week ago and she has split up with her latest husband. She also lets him know that she thinks that god is telling her that they should get back together. Both Victor and Janie and in shock after receiving this news. Victor doesn't seem to have many feeling toward Janie and doesn't seem to mind that his ex wife wants to live with them. On the other hand Janie is quite upset about all this and tries to hide it and act like she doesn't mind. I think that something will happen and Janie and Victor will get divorced. The part I am at right now is Caroline and Janie talking about there recent dilemma's. How do you think each friend will react to each others problems?

Why I Chose it

The book I chose to read is called All For One by Melody Carlson. When I was looking for a book and picked up this book it really stood out to me because it is about for women who were best friends when they were little and now they are all back in their hometown and reunite after many years. I can also connect to one of the characters by just reading the back. it says that on of the friends has a mother with Alzheimer's disease. My grandpa has Alzheimer's and I can really relate to what she is going through and taking care of her. I also thought it was interesting how all of them have their own problems but they come together and help each other even though they have rough times of there own. I think that in the end they will some how figure out all the problem and really be there for each other. I also think that these women will realize how important friendship is.

Most Important Quote Fahrenheit 451

There is one quote that stood out to me from the first section of the book, Fahrenheit 451. The quote is "'No, Millie, no! Wait! Stop it, will you? You dont know... stop it!' he slapped her face grabbing her again and shook her. She said his name and began to cry. ' Millie!' he said. ' Listen. Give me  a second, will you? We can't do anything. We can't burn these. I want to look at them, at least look at them once. Then if what the captian says is true, we'll burn them together, believe me, we'll burn them together. You must help me.' he said." I think this quote is very importnant to the story because this is when Montag starts going against the government and reads book and has books in his ventilator. This is a symbol of Montag questioning and wondering about the government and why they do things like this. Clarisse is the one who started Montag questioning because she was telling him how she heard in the past firemen put out fire and didnt start fires and burn houses down. If Montag never met Clarisse the book would be completely different. The quote also leads us to the rest of the book because it is sort of giving the reader hints about what might happen to Montag and Mildred and if the government finds that Montag was hiding and reading books. This really proves what kind of person Montag is and how he feels about his career/job. i thought it was interesting that it says that he slapped Mildred because this is just another way of proving he isn't in love with her really at all.

Blog Reflection

This is a good blog post that proves I can make complex reflections and comparisons. This post also includes thorough textual evidence. An example of thorough textual evidence is when I explain the quote form the back of the book cover. The quote was "You can’t stop the future. You can't rewind the past. The only way to learn the secret ... is to press play." I described exactly what I interpreted it as and textual evidence. I thought this was really creative and such a good way to hook the reader. I also describe the characters and how they were portrays in the beginning of the book. An example of how I described the characters fully and completely is in this blog post. I strongly focused on the main character, Hannah, who committed suicide. I went into depth about her character and how she is portrayed. She was always very calm although she was mad at all the people she was taping about. She never completely blamed the teens that affected her choices.

The next thing I address in this post was the connection between it and another text. I compared and connected it with the Pretty Little Liars. When I described why I related the two books it was a good example of how I can make thorough connections and comparisons when I am reading.  Also another connection I made in a different post was that these are all things that happen to people and these things cause real kids to commit suicide. I would be a text to world connection. http://kyliedreadingblog.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-book-have-chosen-to-read-is.html

My goals for the next trimester are too read at least three books. The only reason I didn’t read much this trimester is because I didn’t have time with band every night of the week and other homework. I tried hard to make time to read but there was much free time at all this first trimester. I could definitely improve on my reading skills and making myself sit down and read when I do have free time.  As for writing I think I can just begin with adding more figurative language when first writing it. I can easily think of them after I already make the rough draft. I could start just automatically putting them in in the first place.

After reading the book the main message I got out of the story was to love yourself and take care of yourself. even if you don't think so there are people who love and care about you. We need to be aware of these things and care and help those who think this way about themselves. this wouldn't happen if more people would just be aware of the people around them.

I felt like I was Clay, the main character, listening to the tapes. the author made the book so casual and easy to relate to. It made me speechless because it really happens and none of this is fake stuff that happens. The way the author portrays Hannah is so real and makes it seem like she is clam and just trying to get her point across.
The way the book is set up is actually pretty well thought out and creative. It makes the book pretty easy to follow and read. the book is set up so that every tape that he listens to is kind of a different chapter. it isn't like a lot of books. I also like the way that author thought of incorporating the tapes into the book.
In this story it really is a lot like real teenage life. Hannah's life and the things that happened to her are exactly what happens all the time to other teens. So try and think about what you do next time you say something to someone and think how that person could be effected.

In this link you can explore more about the author. Also you can read reviews of the book from other readers. This is a good source for those of you that are not sure about reading this book or not. Another cool part of the website is that there is a section that allows you to listen to the tapes and sections of the book online. If you click on Hannah's tapes on the website you can access this feature.

Theme

I have found the theme of Thirteen Reasons Why. Never judge someone by what they look like or who the are until you really know everything. Some people just automatically assume that a person is weird or annoying or not nice by just looking at them. You don't know what they are like until you talk to them and listen to them. Some people hide their true feeling. In this book Hannah hides what she really feels and what she thinks when people do mean things to her. Hannah is not the only one who hides what they are actually feeling. This book gives you a good idea and kind of connects the really world and the book and how if you say something and you don't think it will hurt anyone most likely it will.

My book is getting very interesting and I am finding out mare and more about why Hannah killed herself. I think it is sort of cool that the people that listen to the tapes also go to the places that Hannah was. it make the book a lot more real in terms of what the places she went to and what they looked like. There are still more people that contributed to her death and I am excited to find out.

My book is about this girl who commits suicide and there are tapes she recorded before she killed herself. Now the people that affected her in a bad way are suppose to listen and follow these tapes. we have found out how Jessica and Alex impacted her life and what they did. these tapes still have to be passed to other people so they can hear what really affected her. the theme of this story I think is; Nothing is always how it appears on the outside. this fits because Hannah never showed she was upset and she was always thought of as pretty and so no one expected her to commit suicide of all people. Many people didn't focus on really getting to know her and how she feels. A quote from this story that shows this is the theme is "Jessica, my dear, id really love to know if you dragged yourself to my funeral. and if you did, did you notice your scar?" this proves Jessica doesn't realized that those things hurt not physically but mentally and that a lot of people don't think they are doing anything wrong to hurt another person when really that person is hurting.

So I am farther into my book and I have found out about three people and how they contributed to the main characters death. The only character who has gotten the tapes that she made is Clay and he is the one who found out about three other people and how they were involved in her suicide. the book is really getting interesting and I can't wait to read on and find out what Clay had to do with her death.

MOVIE TRAILER

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBY_FqqdmYg
This is the movie trailer for the book Thirteen Reasons Why. I haven't seen the movie and plan on watching it after I finish the book. The movie trailer really portrays the book very well. the characters are exactly what I pictured them to be.

This is the back cover of the book and might give you an idea of what is about. This is my favorite quote so far. I blogged about this quote in my first post because it really impacted how I like the book.

Over the past week I have read more in my book and have gotten a better understanding of my book. Since I had only read the first couple chapters I didn't get all the information yet on who the characters were and the setting. Now I understand all of that. I think it is really cool how all the characters connect back to this one set of tapes that Hannah made before she died.
I am wondering what Clay's friend has to do with the death of Hannah? I can't wait to read on and find out how Clay is related to her death also.

Book Recommendation

A good book recommendation for people that like this book or want to read it is By the Time You Read This, I'll be Dead. If you read the back cover of both of these books you can already see that they are very similar. Both of the book are about why the girl in the story committed suicide and who was part of the reason. I haven't read the book By the Time You read this, I'll be Dead but the back of the book sounds very interesting. Each book seems to have its own twist on the general idea portrayed in both stories. Another book recommendation for people who want to read this book or have read it is Deadline. This book is about a seventeen year old who only has a year to make his mark on the world and be remembered. I found this book on goodreads.com and I am going to read this book next. So for anyone who is interested in Thirteen Reasons why might also be interested in Deadline or By The Time You Read this, I'll be Dead.

My book starts pretty confusing. I don't understand what is going on that well in the prologue and the first couple of chapters. I think it will take a while to understand. I feel like the concept of the book is good and draws the reader but really once you start reading it you will be a bit confused. I do hope that as the story goes on I get a better understanding of what is going on and how everything relates. I would still recommend this book because I really think the concept is really good and interesting.

Summary

The book I have chosen to read is Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. With just reading the title I predict that there will be thirteen reasons why someone died. After reading the back cover I discovered that Hannah the main character has died and Clay Jensen is responsible in some way of her death. Clay doesn't want anything to do with the tape that Hannah had recorded before her death. My prediction was partially correct because I thought that someone had died and there are thirteen reasons why she died. I still don't know if there are thirteen reasons why she died. I will find that out after I read some of the book. When I picked the book up off the shelf it caught my attention because of the cover and second when I read the back cover the quote at the top really interested me and made me want to know what happens. The quote: "You cant stop the future. You can't rewind the past. The only way to learn the secret ... is to press play." I really thought this was so creative and such a good way to hook the reader. I think it is also cool and interesting to see the quotes that relate to the book on the front cover. A connection I noticed even by reading the back cover is that it is a knock off of the Pretty Little Liars Series. In pretty little liars someone has died and 'A' is sending the girls notes giving them facts that he or she knows about them. Eventually the girls figure out who 'A' is. This is a text to text connection because in the book Hannah dies and leaves these tapes that eventually lead to who and why Hannah died. What i dont understand is that Clay is told his name is in the tape and Hannah told him but she is dead so how could she have told him? Did he like see signs that she was sending him or did she tell him before she died?
